{"id":272,"date":"2009-08-10T08:00:08","date_gmt":"2009-08-10T12:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cityblock.wordpress.com\/?p=272"},"modified":"2009-08-10T08:00:08","modified_gmt":"2009-08-10T12:00:08","slug":"minneapolis-lrt-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/2009\/08\/10\/minneapolis-lrt-vehicles\/","title":{"rendered":"Minneapolis &#8211; LRT Vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My semi-regular voyages back home to Minnesota afford me a great chance to ride Minneapolis&#8217; sole light rail line, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hiawatha_Line\">the Hiawatha Line<\/a>.\u00a0 It stands in such contrast to DC&#8217;s Metro &#8211; Metro is a system, this (currently) is just one line; Metro&#8217;s stations are all similar, while each Hiawatha station has individual designs; Metro is relatively old, Hiawatha is almost brand new.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, it&#8217;s worth a ride. making it harder to see stops, signage, etc.\u00a0 Might this work in a subway setting? presumably something similar to the new replacement platform displays they&#8217;d like to see.\u00a0 However, such variable displays would also be able to show information like this, varying depending upon which line the car is serving at that particular time.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/dcist.com\/2008\/01\/the_future_of_m_1.php\">DCist at least hinted<\/a> at the possibility of these LCD displays showing &#8220;interactive maps.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of signage, the Hiawatha line aims to <a href=\"http:\/\/theoverheadwire.blogspot.com\/2009\/07\/thats-expensive-signage.html\">correct one sore spot<\/a> of patrons flying out of MSP International &#8211; telling you which airlines serve which terminal:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-284\" title=\"IMG_4487\" src=\"http:\/\/cityblock.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/08\/img_4487.jpg?resize=450%2C600\" alt=\"IMG_4487\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_4487.jpg?w=1944&amp;ssl=1 1944w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_4487.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_4487.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_4487.jpg?w=1250 1250w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_4487.jpg?w=1875 1875w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For those unfamiliar with <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Minneapolis-Saint_Paul_International_Airport\">MSP<\/a>, each of the airport&#8217;s two terminals have LRT stations.\u00a0 Since the line opened, the smaller Humphrey terminal has seen an increased role in airport operations.\u00a0 LRVs travel between the two stations 24 hours a day to provide the official circulator between the two, should you need to transfer from one gate to the other (no matter how rare this is).<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-285\" title=\"IMG_4437\" src=\"http:\/\/cityblock.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/08\/img_4437.jpg?resize=450%2C337\" alt=\"IMG_4437\" width=\"450\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_4437.jpg?w=2592&amp;ssl=1 2592w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_4437.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_4437.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_4437.jpg?w=1250 1250w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_4437.jpg?w=1875 1875w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Like Metro&#8217;s original interior color scheme, I&#8217;m not sure this one will stand the test of time &#8211;
