but here are some items worth noting from the previous week or so:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Streetcars bridge the gaps<\/strong>: Yonah Freemark has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetransportpolitic.com\/2010\/06\/02\/washington-comes-closer-to-bridging-the-gap-with-its-new-streetcar-network\/\" target=\"_blank\">an excellent post<\/a> on DC&#8217;s evolving streetcar network and its ability to fill the gaps in Metro&#8217;s network.\u00a0 Yonah&#8217;s excellent visuals (as usual) help frame the discussion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New maps:<\/strong> New York gets a new map &#8211; Second Ave Sagas <a href=\"http:\/\/secondavenuesagas.com\/2010\/06\/03\/a-complete-look-at-the-new-subway-map\/\" target=\"_blank\">has the breakdown<\/a>.\u00a0 The map decreases clutter, though nothing compared to the more schematic designs for other systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Metro too cluttered: <\/strong>Speaking of clutter, Massimo Vignelli thinks Metro&#8217;s gotten <a href=\"http:\/\/dcist.com\/2010\/06\/is_the_metro_ugly.php\" target=\"_blank\">too cluttered<\/a> since he and Harry Weese came up with the signage scheme for the system decades ago.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Congestion pricing: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wired <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/magazine\/2010\/05\/ff_komanoff_traffic\/\" target=\"_blank\">profiles the data-driven Charles Komanoff<\/a> and his search for economically efficient pricing<\/li>\n<li>Ryan Avent argues for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ryanavent.com\/blog\/?p=2316\" target=\"_blank\">simplicity in pricing<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Avent also on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ryanavent.com\/blog\/?p=2320\" target=\"_blank\">benefits of congestion<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ryanavent.com\/blog\/?p=2318\" target=\"_blank\">who benefits from pricing<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The Overhead Wire: <a href=\"http:\/\/theoverheadwire.blogspot.com\/2010\/06\/midnight-notes.html\" target=\"_blank\">don&#8217;t forget the benefits<\/a> of reduced congestion for buses and bikes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Grid vs. Sac:<\/strong> David Alpert notes a (perhaps the only) redeeming quality <a href=\"http:\/\/greatergreaterwashington.org\/post.cgi?id=6055\" target=\"_blank\">of the cul de sac<\/a>;
