The WordPress theme I use rotates them randomly with each page load. I thought I would compile them all (current and former) on a page and offer some backstory where it might be interesting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/GalleryPlaceMetro.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/GalleryPlaceMetro.jpg?resize=620%2C89\" width=\"620\" height=\"89\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gallery Place Metro Station: <\/strong>I took this photo from the mezzanine of the Gallery Place station, looking down on the Red Line tracks. The design is typical of DC&#8217;s vaulted stations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/UnionStationDen.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/UnionStationDen.jpg?w=620\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Denver Union Station: <\/strong>The neon sign sitting atop <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverunionstation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Denver&#8217;s Union Station<\/a> at dusk &#8211; this sign terminates the <a href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/HDBhL\" target=\"_blank\">view down 17th Street<\/a> in Downtown Denver. This photo predates the current construction occuring behind the station.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/plate.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/plate.jpg?w=620\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>DC License Plates: <\/strong>Taken from some random car around my neighborhood, highlighting DC&#8221;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/District_of_Columbia_voting_rights\" target=\"_blank\">lack of voting rights<\/a>. You can now find these plates <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtoncitypaper.com\/blogs\/looselips\/2013\/01\/15\/victory-obama-finally-puts-taxation-plates-on-his-car\/\" target=\"_blank\">on the Presidential Limo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/ChicagoBlueLine.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/ChicagoBlueLine.jpg?w=620\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Chicago Subway: <\/strong>I added this photo because the subject matter was fitting for the blog and my picture cropped nicely to the header dimensions. This El train is arriving at the Monroe station on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blue_Line_(CTA)#Milwaukee-Dearborn_Subway\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago&#8217;s Blue Line<\/a>. As the ad on the blue paneling shows, I took this photo sometime around the release of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ghost_Rider_(film)\" target=\"_blank\">Ghost Rider movie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/milwaukeemarket.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/milwaukeemarket.jpg?w=620\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Milwaukee Public Market: <\/strong>Mirroring the photo of Denver Union Station, I happened to be walking past <a href=\"http:\/\/www.milwaukeepublicmarket.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Milwaukee&#8217;s Public Market<\/a> around dusk and thought there might be another opportunity for a neon-sign-at-dusk shot. I only had my cell phone with me at the time, so the resolution is a bit fuzzy &#8211; but I thought I&#8217;d add it to the header pool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/DupontMetro.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/DupontMetro.jpg?w=620\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Dupont Circle North Entrance: <\/strong>DC&#8217;s Metro has plenty of long escalators, but the north entrance of the Dupont Circle station is the most sculptural. For better or worse, the circular hole at the surface has no canopy, leaving the backdrop of sky and trees for passengers riding the escalator. The stone of the circle is <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Walt_Whitman_quote,_Dupont_Circle_Metro.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">inscribed<\/a> with <a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-3aK0WypNNMQ\/UF8RoduddnI\/AAAAAAAAAEQ\/WfNV4zz3qgk\/s1600\/Dupont_Circle_Metro_station,_north_entrance.jpeg\" target=\"_blank\">an excerpt<\/a> of Walt Whitman&#8217;s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bartleby.com\/142\/128.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Wound-Dresser<\/a>. <\/em>The inscription is not original to the station, <a href=\"http:\/\/dcist.com\/2007\/06\/05\/dupont_metro_ge.php\" target=\"_blank\">it was added in 2007<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/DC%2520WASA%2520map%25201985%2520header.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alexblock.net\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/atahualpa\/images\/header\/DC%2520WASA%2520map%25201985%2520header.jpg?w=620\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>DC Water Main Diagram: <\/strong>From a map of <a href=\"http:\/\/greatergreaterwashington.org\/post\/6289\/where-does-your-dc-water-come-from\/\" target=\"_blank\">DC&#8217;s water infrastructure<\/a>. The 9th floor hosts the studio theater; the building has two <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guthrietheater.org\/about_guthrie\/our_spaces\" target=\"_blank\">other theaters<\/a> at lower levels. The yellow windows look out on the Mississippi River, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stone_Arch_Bridge_(Minneapolis)\" target=\"_blank\">Stone Arch Bridge<\/a>, and St. Anthony Falls.
